The Dholaki is a traditional Indian percussion two-headed drum and is very similar to the Dholak. This instrument is also known as the naal. As compared to the Dholak, a Dholaki is smaller, narrower and has a lesser diameter. It is used in Indian Folk music and in other music formats like Bhajans and Kirtans.

The shell of the Dholaki is made of wood, and the two heads are made from leather which are kept in place by metal hooks that have nuts at the bottom that can be tightened or loosened to adjust the pitch of the head.

The Dholaki is either played on the player’s lap or, while standing, slung from the shoulder or waist or pressed down with one knee while sitting on the floor.
